Alternate Routes:

Both Baeza and the neighboring city of Úbeda are recognized as the cradle of Andaluz renaissance, having been named Cities of Human Heritage by the UNESCO. In addition to these two important historical centres, the provincial capital, Jaén, possesses historical treasures that mustn’t be missed – especially their impressive cathedral!  And don’t forget that we are located within the heart of Europe’s major concentration of castles and forts. Come and travel the different routes to these important sites

  • Pathways and trails ideal for both walkers and lovers of cycling: the Vía Augusta Romana, the Ruta de los Iberos, and the area designated as a future green route, located on the old Baeza-Utiel railroad line, which was never used.
  • Visit the old abandoned salt mines in one of Baeza’s outlying villages, Las Escuelas (20 km from Baeza). The hiking trail is short, about 1 km in length.
  • Visit the Paraje de La Lambra (about 3 km from the nearby town of Canena) and the Giribaile reservoir, where you can enjoy both nature’s beauty and some well-preserved archeological ruins, like the Cueva de Valdecanales. The trail is approximately 14 km in length.
  • The Montalvas route, or the route over the flats known as San Buenaventura in Baeza. These are well-maintained trails through olive groves, and ideal for bicycling. From these trails you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Jaén mountain range.  The trails are approximately 5 to 7 km in length.
  • The Comendador grinding mill and the Mazuecos Bridge. A Trail of about 3.5 km, starting in Baeza and follows the highway towards Jimena.
